For my first Boxed Baker entry, I give you Cinnamon Swirl Crumble Cake!!!
When we buy stuff to bake, my hubby usually chooses what to get. By default we would always have banana bread mix. He also likes crumb cakes and whatever has cinnamon. For this mix we bought Krusteaz Cinnamon Swirl Crumb Cake and Muffin Mix. Some of you might say that these ready mixes are not really healthy and I should make food from scratch and stuff like that, but hey, let me do my stuff. I will eventually get there.
So anyway here it is!
Instructions are very easy. I changed a few things:
- Used two eggs instead of one.
- Baked for 30 minutes only instead of 40-45 minutes.
- Used milk instead of water (I usually do this).
I think using milk made the batter more gooey and it was actually difficult to spread the batter specially the top later, after sprinkling cinnamon sugar. I felt 40-45 minutes might be too long of a baking time for this one so I did 30 minutes first then checked if it’s still raw-ish. I’m glad I did this cos otherwise I would’ve burned the entire thing.
I’ve learned to cook or bake a few minutes less than instructed cos sometimes no matter how you stick to the recipe, things go differently. Also there may be times when you’ll be using a bigger pan making your batter thinner which means you probably would need less time to get the job done.
My cinnamon swirl crumb cakes doesn’t look as pretty as in the box but it’s husband-approved and I am good with that!
