Oh god, husband is trying to redo our bathroom. Send help.
Starbucks Stories: A Friday habit
While I still look for a personality for my blog, let me turn this into something like a diary for now. Let’s start with today, Friday..the 13th! Most people believe Friday the 13th is unlucky like a black cat or the full moon. But is it really? I have no idea how this belief started. All I know is that my Fridays are awesome!
Every Friday Leo drops me off at our local Starbucks while i wait for Petco to open. What do I do at Petco? No I don’t work there; I take care of the cats for adoption! I have seen several cat come and get adopted. We had a black cat that took some time to get adopted only because she’s black (like it’s her fault). One time I was doing my usual cat clean up when an older mother and daughter stopped by. Daughter wanted to get her mom another cat and pointed at Katz, our black cat. The mother straight said no she doens’t want a black cat cos they’re bad luck! Whaaaaat?? Anyway, it’s her choice, but it was just sad.
NAILED IT!! Classic Crepes!
I love crepes. I would be happy in a crepe buffet. Before crepes became a thing, my sister and I always take advantage whenever there’s a crepe station in a buffet.
Leo also loves crepes, since we all love crepes with a passion, it is only proper to learn how to make them. It is very easy even without those crepe tool things to make it look all pretty and even.
The Cat Lady (in me).
I have started the habit of walking 2 miles to the nearest shopping center here in our new place. The area has stores like Giant and TJ Maxx so after 40 minutes of walking, I do some window shopping (girls, pfft!). I’ve also discovered that across this shopping center is a Petco branch! Perfect! I walk at least 3 days a week and talk this opportunity to go see some cats and dogs and other animals because unfortunately, our lease doesn’t allow us to have pets. Having pets (or a pet) I think would be beneficial for me since I am usually alone in the house while Leo is at work. I don’t have anyone to interact with aside from the occasional neighbor’s cat that drops by for some petting and treats. It could get a bit lonely. Walking helps, for now.
So one day at Petco I noticed a sign that says that the SPCA here is looking for volunteers to help with the cats! OH MY GOODNESS. So guess what I did? Yep, I sent them an email RIGHT AWAY. Long story short, I’m gonna start this week! Yip yip!
I’ve seen some last chance adoption cats and it’s really heartbreaking for me. They look so sad, specially the older cats. I would definitely want to adopt older animals cos people usually avoid them. If it’s not a puppy or a kitten, they got lesser chances of getting adopted.
When I start my volunteer work I know it will somehow make a difference to the animals, and it would surely help me a lot.
My K1 Visa: Biometrics
So I had my fingerprint scan and photo taken today. Basically I flew from Maryland to Atlant and back to Maryland for a 7 minute procedure. And had to pay $1,000+ to start this whole AOS thing.
I guess governments are somewhat the same whichever country try you’re in.
Just saying.
September 15
Sleeping-on-the-floor Day. We got all our stuff hauled out but the movers.
This, my friends, is honeymoon.
My K1 Visa Journey: Medical Exam
There is only one place you can have your medical exam done: St. Lukes Medical Center Extension Clinic Manila (SLEC), and here are a few important things:
- It is expensive: Php11,300 (as of September 2016)
- They don’t honor HMO (at least not in my knowledge). Pay in cash.
- Book the earliest appointment.
- You will find everything you need to know on their website (requirements, etc.)
- READ and bring EVERYTHING. When in doubt, ask!
- Make sure to bring immaculately clean photos and have some extras.
- Bring a hair tie for the chest x-ray.
- PROTIP: Go after your period is over. Otherwise they will delay your vaccination worried that you may be worry. You cannot convince them otherwise. OR just say you just had your period.
Wedding update: Just married!
Okay so I haven’t written for over a month cos it’s been craaaazy! Imagine having only 2 months to prepare for a wedding outside your country, outside the state you’re in, using a different currency, and having to fly two families from two different countries and making sure they make it to your wedding! It was chaotic and expensive.
Hubby and I sourced ALL of our vendors online. We used Wedding Wire (shout out to you, guys!) Overall it was based on online search, faith, and reviews. Philippines definitely needs something like WW! I’ve always loved weddings and organizing my own with a limited time was such an experience!

Anyway, our wedding turned out beautifully beautiful! I’m not being biased but I got a lot of “Your wedding is amazing! It’s probably in my top three of best weddings!” Yep, for real. I will be writing about it in length next time.
Toodalooo!
Boxed Baker: Cinnamon Swirl Crumb Cake
For my first Boxed Baker entry, I give you Cinnamon Swirl Crumble Cake!!!
When we buy stuff to bake, my hubby usually chooses what to get. By default we would always have banana bread mix. He also likes crumb cakes and whatever has cinnamon. For this mix we bought Krusteaz Cinnamon Swirl Crumb Cake and Muffin Mix. Some of you might say that these ready mixes are not really healthy and I should make food from scratch and stuff like that, but hey, let me do my stuff. I will eventually get there.
So anyway here it is! Continue reading “Boxed Baker: Cinnamon Swirl Crumb Cake”
